MEET THE FACULTY OF LAW “JUSTINIAN THE FIRST” IN SKOPJE

The Faculty of Law “Justinian the First” is the oldest higher education institution in the Republic of North Macedonia in the field of legal, political and communication sciences. It was established by Decree of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia on November 3, 1951 as a department of the Faculty of Law and Economics of the University of Skopje, and since July 1, 1956 it has been operating as the first independent higher education institution in the field of legal sciences. In 2001, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its existence, the Faculty of Law was renamed the “Justinian First” Faculty of Law (Facultas Iuridica lustinianus Primus) by the decision of the Teaching and Research Council. In 2016, the Faculty of Law celebrated the 65th anniversary of its existence. .

Faculty Day is November 3, the day when the Faculty of Law and Economics was established by the Decree passed by the Government of the Republic of Macedonia. At the Faculty of Law, December 10 is traditionally celebrated as International Human Rights Day.

From the establishment of the Faculty until today, a total of 47,820 students are enrolled in legal studies, a total of 272 students are enrolled in dispersed legal studies in Shtip, 307 students are enrolled in dispersed legal studies in Veles, 2,998 students are enrolled in journalism studies, and political studies a total of 2720 students. From the academic year 2013/2014, 49 students are enrolled in the newly established undergraduate studies in political science in English. 210 students have been enrolled in the newly established public relations studies since the academic year 2013/2014. As of May 31, 2014, a total of 531 candidates successfully completed their postgraduate studies and obtained the Master of Science degree at the “Justinian First” Faculty of Law, and 252 candidates obtained the Doctor of Science degree.

A total of 4,080 students enrolled in the second cycle (master’s studies) of the academic year 2008/09 in legal sciences, 372 in political studies and 162 in journalism studies. So far, a total of 2746 students have successfully completed the second cycle of studies (master’s studies), of which: 2572 students of legal studies, 98 students of political studies and 76 students of journalism studies.

108 students of legal sciences, 17 students of political sciences and 11 students of communication sciences are enrolled in the third cycle (doctoral studies) from the academic year 2011/2012.

73 teachers, 3 assistants and 1 doctoral assistant are involved in the teaching process of the Faculty. Teachers from other faculties of the University “St. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje and distinguished experts from practice. In the teaching of the second cycle, students have the opportunity to attend practical teaching outside the faculty in state bodies, courts, non-governmental organizations, media and other institutions.
